Easy Mothers Day Ideas for Older Adults

May 10, 2018/by tiffany

We all can agree that quality time and undivided attention are valuable commodities. This Mother’s Day is an opportunity to share those gifts with someone you care about. Here is an activity that we hope inspires a joyful connection with your mother or that special female role model in your life.

To make the setting special, start with buying flowers and prepare a nice snack. No matter what time of year it is, and no matter what the reason, colorful flowers are a wonderful gift and brighten up any environment.

Next, invite your mother or care partner to join you for favorite beverage and treat. Taking time to set the table adds a nice touch and shows that time together is valuable.

As you enjoy your snack together, share photographs of mothers and children and use some of the questions below to initiate meaningful conversation. The photos and reminiscing offer emotional nurturing by connecting to the sense of motherhood.

  • Describe your mother.

  • What were some of your favorite memories of your mother?

  • Were you close to your grandmother? Describe what she was like.

  • What are some of the most memorable moments of being a mother?

  • How did your children get their names? Are they named after someone?

  • What is your favorite part about Motherhood?

If questions are too overwhelming, you can also share photos and memories about your mother and motherhood and look up photos on the internet of mothers, both people and animals. Mama cats with their kittens or mama dogs with their pups are bound to evoke smiles. Enjoy your time and have a beautiful and Happy Mother’s Day!
