Improvisation and Dementia
Could dementia be considered a living form of improvisation? Joy? Creativity? Play? What if we discovered new communication patterns that are playful and focused on connection and experience rather than memory? What if both art making and art appreciation could provide creative engagment through a shared experience for activity partners? At The Hummingbird Project, we believe all forms of engagment– from outings in nature to tinkering to dancing–are therapeutic and healing for older adults.
