Art Observation Supports Cognition and Social Connections
During a group presentation of Art Reflections, Pat tilted her head as she looked at “La Terrace de Sainte Adresse”, by Claude Monet. “Something’s wrong here.” She studied closer and asked, “How is his hat still on when the wind is that strong?” This led to a great discussion involving other residents in the assisted living community pointing out how objects oddly appeared to not be affected by the wind. “Flowers are standing upright,” added Bev. “Her dress is not blowing,” noted Virginia. The group was able to connect with each other through their discoveries while being stimulated cognitively. Pat graciously accepted the credit for spotting the painting’s flaws and added, “Glad others see it, too.”
